This is me giving the best man speech at my brother’s wedding. You may ask, how is this relevant to business?
Well, it was the first time I had to prepare and give a serious public speech in front of a group of Exeter kids I grew up idolizing. I wove in a joke about my brother’s wife wanting to marry a JD (Jewish Doctor) but got my brother, with a Juris Doctorate instead.
At the end of the speech, some friends came up to my dad and me and said “Your son is a great public speaker.” My dad replied, “Yes, he is.” That made a huge impression on me.
That was the beginning of my journey. I started writing down the feedback I heard at least 3 times and developing upon it. I didn’t fully believe in the journey at first, but I continued to explore it further. Yes, I believe it now.
Play to your strengths. Not sure what they are?
Listen for the 3 times you hear “Hey, you’re real good at…”
